under cyclic charge and discharge conditions. Work in progress, this is a draft of the report prepared for the proceedings of the Mathematics-in Industry Study Group, held in Adelaide, Australia in January 2003.

Arnold Tongues in Human Cardiorespiratory Systems,
in which data from sleeping humans showing synchronisation between breathing and heart-beats is nicely modelled by a circle map. This map combines two classic examples of circle maps, both studied by Arnold.

Terrain-induced slugging of liquid in two-phase gas pipelines,
some work done on the way that the liquid phase moves in "slugs", induced by undulations in a mainly horizontal pipeline, at a Mathematics-in-Industry Study Group in Adelaide in 2002.
